MCCPS Meeting Notes
September 3, 2024
The Martin County Cancer Patient Services met at the Loogootee Library in Loogootee, Indiana at 5:30 PM.
Rheadawn Street opened with a prayer and welcomed guests.
In attendance were Rheadawn Street, Linda Knight, Robin Hart, Karen Jones, Andrea Deckard, Rene Phillips, Kenley Shaw, Dennie Green and Jim Force.
The Secretary report was sent via email and reviewed by all members. With three minor corrections, Robin Hart made the motion to accept and Linda Knight seconded the motion. The motion carried 4-0. Linda Knight presented the treasurer report. Karen Jones made the motion to approve and Robin Hart seconded the motion. It was approved 4-0.
OLD BUSINESS
Grant Update and Donations:
The opportunity to reapply for another Youth Ambassador Grant is now open. Linda Knight reported the Operation Round Up Grant application was not submitted. Boost Grant application is due on October 31. Grant for Thanksgiving baskets – we will table until we check with a dietitian on patient needs.
Bob Toy’s yard sale: donation of ½ proceeds $854.00.
Patient Update and Community Outreach:
Total Patients: 37
New Patients: 3 Patty Abel, Gerald Shoultz and Joe Hart
Deaths: Kevin Harder passed away. Our condolences to his family and friends. Andrea Deckard suggested that family be notified of memorial donations received.
Birthday Blessings:
Tammy Salmon will complete the September patient birthday bags. Karen Jones, Linda Knight and Robin Hart volunteered to do October, November and December patient birthday bags. The decision to continue in 2025 will be discussed at a later meeting.
Youth Ambassador:
No update was given.
Computer/Printer:
Need to secure a place before ordering. Rheadawn Street will check with the Shoals Post Office as they have space not being used anymore.
Event Insurance:
Rheadawn Street reported she’s still waiting to hear from Carl Austin Insurance in Nashville, Indiana.
Hoosier Movie Event:
Andrea Deckard reported she had at least 15 items for the Silent Auction. Flyers are being prepared. Will check with Shannon Wagoner on student volunteers.
Fundraising:
Hindostan Days: raffle off cornhole boards/bags, basket & overnight stay; sell gun raffle tickets.
Mathias Chicken Dinner: Robin Hart & Karen Jones have 88 chickens donated – need 100 total, Linda Knight will purchase 8 gallons of peanut oil with designated donation, butter not needed since using Hawaiian rolls, need 6-8 oz. containers with lids for potato salad, suggested using colored chips indicating number of meals ordered during event. Karen Jones will update the flyer from last year. We will be holding a 50/50 drawing and raffling off the gun.Gun Raffle: Flyers prepared by Rene Phillips. Country Pines printed 1,000 raffle tickets.

12/20/2024 – assemble patient Christmas bags at 10:00 am at Jim Force residence. Kenley Shaw will prepare cards and Andrea Deckard will provide baked goods.
12/21/2024 – deliver patient Christmas bags – assign volunteers at December meeting.
Cancer Awareness Basketball Games:
Shoals High School - January 25, 2025
Loogootee High School – not yet scheduled.

NEW BUSINESS
The wish list on the website needs to be updated to delete the canopy and add items for patient birthday bags.
The K of C had a Jeep Ride September 1 with a 50/50 raffle. They are donating ½ of the pot.
Dover Hill Christian Union Church donated a basket to raffle off at Hindostan Days.
Green Gables Bed & Breakfast donated a one-night stay valued at $126.00. Rene Phillips is preparing a flyer and we will raffle it off at Hindostan Days.
Linda Knight made a motion to adjourn and Robin Hart seconded it. Motion carried 4-0. Meeting was adjourned at 6:47 PM. The next meeting will be held at St. Mary’s Church Hall, Shoals, Indiana on October 1, 2024 at 5:30 PM.
