Martin County Cancer Patient Services Meeting

October 1, 2024


The Martin County Cancer Patient Services met at St Mary’s Hall in Shoals, Indiana at 5:30 PM.

Rheadawn Street opened with a prayer and welcomed the guests.

In attendance were Rheadawn Street, Linda Knight, Rex Knight, Shannon Wagoner, Robin Hart, Kevin Guy, Karen Jones, Andrea Deckard, Rene Phillips, Dee Collins, Kenley Shaw, Doug Bradley, Paul Wade, Kim Showalter, and Jim Force. 


The Secretary report was sent via email and completed by Karen Jones. It was reviewed by all members. Shannon Wagoner made the motion to accept and Robin Hart seconded the motion. The motion carried 5-0. Linda Knight presented the treasure report. Rheadawn Street made the motion to approve and Karen Jones seconded the motion. It was approved 5-0.. 


Grant Update and Donations:

Rex Knight notified the committee that the printer, laptop, and paper have been purchased with grant money. The items will be located at Rheadawn Street’s home until there is a location found for the set up. 

The last Friday in October will be the last day to apply for the Community Foundation Grant which the committee had discussed using for Thanksgiving Baskets. A Dietician will be consulted regarding patients' needs due to special diets.

A special thank you to Robin Hart for donating the birthday bags for October. There are 3 patient birthdays to celebrate.

Volunteers

Kim Showalter presented the committee with two gift baskets to be raffled at Hindostan Days. Thank you, Kim!

Upcoming Events:

Hindostan Days - Raffle a gun and cornhole boards/bags. Volunteers signed up for this event; Shannon Wagoner will send out the schedule via text as everyone signs up for time slots. The drawing will be held at 5:30 PM for the cornhold boards/bags and gift baskets. 


Mathias Chicken Dinner - Several volunteers signed up for this event. Robin Hart, Shannon Wagoner, Rheadawn Street, and Kenley Shaw will help with packaging chicken dinners.  Andrea Deckard will sit at the 50/50 and gun raffle table. Karen Jones will sit at the entry and manage the cash box for the chicken dinners. Dee Collins, Kevin Guy,  and Paul Wade will help with clean up, etc. The gun raffle drawing will be held at the event. 


Hoosier Event - The event will be held at Loogootee Methodist Church on November 19 at 6:00PM


Gift Bags For the Holidays - Volunteers needed to fill and deliver Christmas bags. December 20 bags will be filled. Delivery date is set for December 21, 2024.


Christmas Stroll - 10X10 Booth at the Loogootee Methodist Church 12-6PM on December 7, 2024. Set up at 8AM.


Cancer Awareness Game Scheduled - Shoals High School January 25, 2025

New Business

President Street presented the board and committee with an estimate for event insurance. There was a question from the committee asking if this was liability insurance for the MCCPS Board. President Street will contact the insurance company to confirm and present at the next meeting. Vice President Karen Jones made a motion that the event insurance be purchased. Linda Knight seconded the motion. The board voted 5-0.  

The MCCPS board members have been invited to speak at the Hindostan Church Ladies of Grace Bible study group. Rheadawn Street, Shannon Wagoner, and Linda Knight will be attending along with Tammy Salmon. 

Shannon Wagoner made a motion to adjourn and Linda Knight seconded it. Meeting was adjourned at 6:52 PM. The next meeting will be held at Loogootee Library, Loogootee, Indiana on November 5, 2024 at 5:30 PM.
