Martin County Cancer Patient Services Meeting October 3, 2023 The Martin County Cancer Patient Services met at the St Mary’s Church in Shoals at 5:30 pm, on October 3, 2023. Those attending were Rheadawn Street, Sandy Bratton, Linda Knight, Rex Knight, Jim Force, Robin Hart, Darla Wagler, Darvin Wagler, Karen Jones, Dennie Green, Paul Wade, Carol Williams, and Tammy Salmon.
The meeting was called to order by President Rheadawn Street. Rheadawn opened the meeting with prayer. Rheadawn reported that since our last meeting there were four new patients in September for a total of 31 patients receiving services.
Secretary Report-The minutes for September were presented via email. A motion to accept was made by Sandy Bratton and seconded by Linda Knight. Approved 3-0
Treasurer Report-The Treasurers report for September was presented by Treasurer Linda Knight and discussed. We have a balance in our checking account of $13,817.57. A motion to accept was made by Rheadawn Street and seconded by Sandy Bratton. Approved 3-0
Old Business
Mathias Chicken dinner-A discussion was held about the success of the dinner ($4005.00) and recommendations made for next year. Those included more dinners served, only carry out dinners available and a different structure for receiving payment. Todd Eckert benefit-Rheadawn and Sandy attended the benefit for Todd Eckert and gave donations to assist Todd. They also gave presentations of services for the organization.
Grants- Rex Knight provided an update in the grant process. MCCPS received the $500 Make my day grant that has no stipulations and can be used for anything. Rex is willing to apply for another grant through Martin County Community foundation but suggests we expend all funds on the current grant to have a better chance of obtaining a larger grant. A discussion was held, and a list made for supplies to have in inventory. The board approved Linda and Rheadawn to purchase the supplies. Linda reported she had contacted Tri Kappa and MCCPS is on the list to be awarded a grant in the future. The amount is unknown.
Fundraising Committee-Hindostan Days is October 7. Set up and schedule of workers were discussed. A discussion was held regarding an Amazon Wish List for a canopy and table for the organization to use for festivals. Rheadawn will work on this, and all members were asked to share once it is posted.
T-shirt inventory is as follows Lavender- 5-small, 9-medium, 2-large 2-XL, 14-2X, 10-3X =42 Total Gray-17-small, 20-medium, 21-large, 22-XL, 20-2X 10-3X =110 Total Kenley Shaw will be given a T-shirt as she is the Youth Ambassador for the organization.
Birthday Blessings-One person received a birthday blessing in September
Volunteers Kenley would like to send Christmas cards to all cancer patients. The committee agreed that would be a great idea. We will provide cards and stamps for her to use. Carol Williams would also be willing to send cards if needed. She also, at some point in the future, will be willing to provide transportation services
New Business
Loogootee Library and CALL will be hosting a Christmas Tree Jubilee at the Library the week of November 11. Tammy Salmon and her sisters-in-law will be donating a decorated tree to this event for MCCPS. A discussion was had about participating in the Loogootee Christmas Stroll. We will finalize at the next meeting The Christmas parade in Loogootee is (12/3 6:00) and Shoals (12/2 1:30) Tammy Salmon will participate in the Shoals parade and will provide display items to anyone who wants to participate in the Loogootee parade.
A motion to adjourn was made by Sandy Bratton and seconded by Linda Knight at approximately 6:44 pm. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 5:30pm, at the Loogootee Library.
