Martin County Cancer Patient Services Meeting November 5, 2024
The Martin County Cancer Patient Services met at Loogootee Library in Loogootee, Indiana at 5:30 PM. Rheadawn Street opened with a prayer and welcomed the guests.
In attendance were Rheadawn Street, Linda Knight, Rex Knight, Kevin Guy, Karen Jones, Andrea Deckard, Rene Phillips, Dee Collins, Kenley Shaw, Doug Bradley, Paul Wade, Bob Toy, Janice Jeffers, Darla Wagler, Darv Wagler, and Jim Force.
The Secretary report was sent via email and completed by Shannon Wagoner. It was reviewed by all members. Rheadawn Street made the motion to accept and Karen Jones seconded the motion. The motion carried 3-0. Linda Knight presen5ted the treasure report. Karen Jones made the motion to approve and Rheadawn Street seconded the motion. It was approved 3-0.
Grant Update and Donations:
Martin County Community Foundation presented MCCPS with a $5,000 gift grant at their 25th anniversary annual dinner. This grant is to be used for patient care. Rex Knight applied for a $2,000 grant to purchase items for the patient Thanksgiving Meal Baskets.

Birthday Blessings:
A special thank you to Linda Knight for delivering a birthday bag to John Andis this month.
Youth Ambassador:
Kenley will deliver (3) $50 meal gift cards to Katie Hoffman's boys. Delivered coats and sweaters to the Haley children that were donated by the Hindostan Church Ladies. They will be purchasing shoes and Christmas gifts in December. Thank you for this blessing!
Volunteers:
Hindostan Church Ladies will be donating decorated Christmas trees to Rick Arvin, Haley children, and Don Bowling. Thank you ladies for your generosity!
Fundraising:
Gun Raffle - $4,790 total made. In the future, the suggestion was made to promote and advertise more. Such as the VFW sign, etc. Gun purchase cost $500 with Dave Harder at the Harder's Gun Shop donating $49 tax fee. Harrison Frank was the winner of the gun.
Hindostan Days Raffle - $560 total made from the raffles.
Mathias Chicken Dinner and 50/50 draw - total made $4,978. Suggestion to have MCCPS members sign card for the Mathias family and notify them of the total amount made next year.
Hoosier Event and online Auction - Voluntee4rs (2-3)needed for setup on Monday 18th at the Loogootee Methodist Church. The day of the event Tuesday 19th volunteers will be needed for work auction tables, cashier for food and auction items, volunteers needed to help Becky in the kitchen. Items needed tape, sharpie markers, and tablecloths. Promote cash or check online. Theme music playing prior to the event. After the speakers present, there will be a Q/A for 6-8 minutes. Clean up volunteers needed for after the event.
Christmas Stroll - December.
Upcoming Events:
Hoosier Event - The event will be held at Loogootee Methodist Church on November 19 at 6:00 PM. Online auction and a silent auction the day of the event.
Thanksgiving Bags - Assemble bags at Jim Force house on November 24 at 1 PM. Delivery that day.
Gift Bags for the Holidays - Volunteers needed to fill and deliver Christmas bags. December 20 bags will be filled. Delivery date is set for December 21, 2024.
Christmas Parades - Purchase candy to donate and throw.
Christmas Stroll - 10x10 booth at the Loogootee Methodist Church 12-6 PM on December 7, 2024. Set up at 8 AM.
Cancer Awareness Game Scheduled - Shoals High School January 25, 2025.

Old Business:
Present Street presented the board and committee with an estimate for event insurance last month. She followed up with them regarding the question of coverage. The MCCPS board members are covered by the plan. Present Street will speak with the Martin County Commissioners regarding use of a space for our computer, printer, and desk. These items were purchased with the Operation Round Up Grant this year. The commissioners will discuss and follow up with Present Street.
New Business:
Loogootee Library Tree Auction - Karen Jones and Carol Williams will decorate and donate a tree to the events. Jim force presented the committee with a proposal for custom seat belt harnesses. Ford has created a seat belt harness to cushion passenger and driver seat belts for women who have had breast cancer surgery. The only cost to the patient is shipping and handling. Mr. folrce graciously ordered two for patient use. Thank you Jim!
Karen Jones made a motion to adjourn and Linda Knight seconded it. Meeting was adjourned at 7:00 PM. The next meeting will be held at St. Mary's Hall, Shoals, Indiana on December 3, 2024 at 5:30 PM.
