Martin County Cancer Patient Services Meeting May 7, 2024
The Martin County Cancer Patient Services met at Loogootee Library Loogootee, Indiana at 5:30 PM.  Rheadawn Street opened with a prayer and welcomed the guests.  

In attendance were Darvin Wagler, Darla Wagler, Rheadawn Street, Linda Knight, Shannon Wagoner, Robin Hart, Paul Wade, Debbie Guy, Kenley Shaw, Tammy Salmon, Karen Jones, Rene Phillips, and Jim Force.


The Secretary report was sent via email and reviewed by all members. Robin Hart made the motion to accept and Karen Jones seconded the motion. The motion carried 5-0. Linda Knight presented the treasure report.  Shannon Wagoner made the motion to approve and Rheadawn Street seconded the motion. It was approved 5-0.

The 50/50 draw application will be sent to the Indiana Gambling Commission. Shannon Wagoner and Linda Knight signed the application. Updates will be given at the next meeting.A discussion regarding gas cards was held. Linda Knight will speak to other support groups and see the amount they are paying per mile. Due to the high cost there may need to be a limit on the amount given per patient per month. This will be reviewed and voted on at the next meeting.


Grant Update and Donations:

Rex Knight notified the committee that the Youth Ambassador Grant is still open. He explained that once the money was spent; the grant would close and he would write on another one. Rex spoke with the Martin County Community Foundation regarding writing a grant for the holiday baskets and it was doable. They asked that the diets, etc be specified per patient.


Without the generosity of others the MCCPS couldn’t support the cancer patients in our community. Thank you to all!

Patient Update and Community Outreach:

Total Patients - 36

New Patients: 2 

Death: Todd Eckert - Our sympathies to the family. A sympathy card was sent to Grace.


Birthday Blessings:

Tammy Salmon delivered birthday blessing bags for 3 patients in May..

Youth Ambassador:

Kenley Shaw has $300 to spend for the grant to be closed out.


Volunteers

Doug Bradley is interested in hosting a Hoosier Event at a local gym and show the movie Hoosiers. Also, there would be a Q and A session, Autograph session with the stars. Possibly the fall of 2025. This information was give per Tammy Salmon.

Fundraising:

The Spring Tea was a success and enjoyed by everyone. Thank you to all those who made it possible! 

The next event will be the Loogootee Summerfest. All volunteers willing to work, please sign up with Shannon Wagoner as she has the calendar schedule for events. Thank you to Rheadawn for purchasing more bracelets and now keychains to sell at the booth!

Thank you to the volunteers who are willing to donate their time to work these events. This makes it possible to support our patients.


The MCCPS will have a booth at the Hindostan Days and host the Mathias Chicken Dinner on 09/28/24. There is a need for volunteers at each event.

New Business
Cake Ball Update - Tammy Salmon and Julie were given the cake mixes and supplies from the members. Thank you to Julie for her willingness to donate all profits to the MCCPS!Suggestion was made for a laptop and printer to be purchased by the MCCPS for use during mailings, etc. Rex Knight will inquire about a grant for the purchase. Kurt Johnson will be meeting with the board members regarding an opportunity for the MCCPS. The board will meet with him on May 21st at his office.

Rheadawn Street made a motion to adjourn and Shannon Wagoner seconded it. Meeting was adjourned at 7:11 PM. The next meeting will be held at the St Marys Church Shoals, Indiana on June 4, 2024 at 5:30 PM.
