Martin County Cancer Patient Services Meeting May 2, 2023The Martin County Cancer Patient Services met at St. Mary’s Lower Level at 5:30 PM with Rheadawn Street opening with a prayer and welcoming the guests.
In attendance were Rheadawn Street, Sandy Bratton, Linda Knight, Shannon Wagoner, Rex Knight, Paula Ringwald, Megan Hawkins, Janie Johnson, Tammy Salmon, Karen Jones, Robin Hart, Steve Deckard, Audra Deckard, Andrea Deckard, and Curt Johnson.
The minutes from the planning meeting were approved 4-0. Rheadawn Street made the motion to approve, and Linda Knight seconded the motion. Treasurer Linda Knight presented the donation report. Shannon Wagoner made the motion to approve, and Rheadawn Street seconded it. They were approved 4-0.
Shannon Wagoner made a motion to charge $20 for t-shirts and Linda Knight seconded it. The cost was approved 4-0.
Donation Update: A $1,7770 grant from Martin County Community Foundation’s Shoals Betterment Fund was donated in memory of Sanford Deckard by Steve Deckard. A photo was taken of the MCCPS board members, MCC Foundation board members, guests, and the Deckard Family.
Karen Jones donated in memory of Edith Ellis.
Tammy Wininger donated in memory of Penny Toy and in honor of Lee Sipes.
Roy and Becky Templin donated $2,500 in memory of George Templin and Kent Fellers. The suggestion was made to have a match challenge.
Patient Update: We added two individuals to our new patient list this month. 5- gas cards were donated to patients - $280. 2 – gift cards were donated $100 each.
Advertisement and Community Outreach Update: Catina Cannon dropped off the labels and business cards prior to the meeting. Shannon Wagoner continues to send monthly thank you cards. Sympathy cards were sent to the families who recently suffered a loss. Shannon Wagoner added Rheadawn Street, Andrea Deckard, Linda Knight, and Sandy Bratton to the MCCPS Facebook administration. Andrea Deckard created flyers to be handed out at the upcoming events and placed in physician offices. A discussion was held regarding a trifold; Andrea will check into making them. Robin Hart will be ordering a banner to use during the booth set ups. Discussion was held regarding the timeframe and if it will be ready for the first advertising event.
Andrea Deckard presented the t-shirts to the board and guests. Everyone was very pleased with the design and purchases begin immediately. T-shirts will be available for $20 at each event. Rheadawn Street purchased bracelets and donated them. They will also be for sale with all proceeds going to MCCPS. Suggestions were made to advertise at the local libraries, Martin County Journal, church bulletins, Shoals News and update the website to current upcoming events.
Grant Update: Rex Knight spoke regarding an upcoming grant. He spoke with Lisa Star at the Community Foundation regarding the grant cycle. $2000 funds will be available for having a store of materials such as Boost, Ensure, wigs, turbans, Ostomy bags, canes and walkers, etc. The board is extremely grateful to Rex and many thanks were given for his time and effort on the grant writing.
Volunteers: David Smith and family are willing to donate their musical talents for any upcoming events scheduled. Volunteers are needed to work the Shoals Spring Fling – Rheadawn Street and Shannon Wagoner will take shifts. Other members will be checking their schedules.
Fundraising: Suggestion by Robin Hart was to offer a Mathies chicken meal for a specific price. She has family that is willing to cook with the Mathies secret family recipe. A suggestion was made to order more t-shirts if this sale is a success.
Sandy Bratton made a motion to adjourn, and Linda Knight seconded it. Meeting was adjourned at 6:35 PM. The next meeting will be held at the Loogootee Library on June 6, 2023, 2023, at 5:30 PM.
