Martin County Cancer Patient Services MeetingJune 4, 2024
The Martin County Cancer Patient Services met at St Mary’s Church Hall in Shoals, Indiana at 5:30 PM.
Rheadawn Street opened with a prayer and welcomed the guests.
In attendance were Rheadawn Street, Linda Knight, Shannon Wagoner, Robin Hart, Paul Wade, Doug Bradley, Kim Showalter, Tammy Salmon, Karen Jones, Rene Phillips, and Jim Force.
The Secretary report was sent via email and reviewed by all members. Robin Hart made the motion to accept and Karen Jones seconded the motion. The motion carried 5-0.
Linda Knight presented the treasure report. Shannon Wagoner made the motion to approve and Robin Hart seconded the motion. It was approved 5-0.
Linda Knight presented the proposed mileage rate for the gas cards. Members were given a list of mileage to the hospitals that are providing care for the cancer patients. The motion was made to accept the new rate at $0.21 per mile by Karen Jones and Rheadawn Street seconded the motion. It was approved 5-0. Linda informed the committee that a canopy, chairs, table, tablecloth, and a collection box was paid with the cake ball fundraiser. Thank you Julie for your kindness!
Linda reported to the committee that the 50/50 qualification for licensure has been completed. Karen Jones gave an update regarding the Martin County Community Foundation proposal to invest money. She explained the many ways to donate through the Foundation. Due to limited funds at this time: the MCCPS will not be investing.
Rene Phillips and her husband spoke with the members regarding a gun raffle; a gold frame Henry 22. Explanation was given regarding the purchase being made a Dave Harder’s Gun Shop and he will handle all paperwork. There were concerns voiced from members regarding the liability of purchasing a gun and a discussion was held. It was voted on by the board that the MCCPS would like to hold a gun raffle. Robin Hart made the motion and Karen Jones seconded it. All was in favor 5-0
Grant Update and Donations:
Rex Knight notified the committee that the Youth Ambassador Grant is still open with a total of $361.. He explained that once the money was spent; the grant would close and he would write on another one. Rex stated that the Operation Round Up grant was received. The grant was written addressing the need of a laptop and printer for MCCPS. Rex chose a 17 inch HP laptop with Microsoft Office installed along with a wireless printer. He also proposed purchasing a small desk and office chair.
Without the generosity of others the MCCPS couldn’t support the cancer patients in our community. Thank you to all!

Birthday Blessings: Tammy Salmon delivered birthday blessing bags for 3 patients in May with 6 coming up in June.
Youth Ambassador: No Updated news to report
Volunteers: Doug Bradley presented the members with more information regarding the Hoosiers Movie Event. Looking at the date of November 21, 2024. Doug stated he had vendors willing to donate chips, Coke, and Pepsi products. The discussion was held regarding a venue and the fundraiser committee is looking into the options. Many members suggested a showing of the movie Hoosiers prior to the Q/A event. Greg Bateman has volunteered to announce at the event. Ideas presented: Tickets or donation at the door, Items for autographs, T-Shirt Toss, Q/A only, and sponsorship such as the Hoosier Hawks, etc.
Fundraising:
The next event will be the Loogootee Summerfest. All volunteers willing to work, please sign up with Shannon Wagoner as she has the calendar schedule for events. The Rock Church donated a cooler with many items for raffling. A big Thank You to those who donated the items!
Compassionate Hands BBQ bank account has been frozen after her recent IRS small business audit. When it is released she will write a check to MCCPS for over $800 that she raised at her event. Julie Poole donated $930 to MCCPS that was earned from the cake ball fundraiser. All members were asked to stay for a picture following the meeting. Thank you!

Catfish Festival - Booth fee paid
Hindostan Days Mathias Chicken Dinner - Tammy Salmon asked that someone coordinate the items donated and times for drop off. Shannon Wagoner volunteered to coordinate.
Gift Bags For the Holidays - Rene Phillips has spoke with Ruler and they are willing to donate turkeys for the Thanksgiving baskets.
Cancer Awareness Games
Thank you to the volunteers who are willing to donate their time to work these events. This makes it possible to support our patients.
The MCCPS will have a booth at the Hindostan Days and host the Mathias Chicken Dinner on 09/28/24. There is a need for volunteers at each event.

New Business
Tammy Salmon told the members that she will be stepping down from the fundraising role. She will continue to provide the birthday celebrations monthly for the patients. The MCCPS appreciates all the time and effort Tammy has donated.
Karen Jones made a motion to adjourn and Linda Knight seconded it. Meeting was adjourned at 7:01 PM. The next meeting will be held at the Loogootee Library, Loogootee Indiana on July 2, 2024 at 5:30 PM.
