Martin County Cancer Patient Services Meeting - June 6, 2023
The Martin County Cancer Patient Services met at Loogootee Public Library at 5:30 PM. Rheadawn Street opened with a prayer and welcomed the guests. In attendance were Rheadawn Street, Sandy Bratton, Linda Knight, Shannon Wagoner, Andrea Deckard, Rex Knight, Karen Jones, Robin Hart, Karen Covel, and Mayor Noel Harty. The minutes from the May meeting were reviewed by the board via email. Rheadawn Street made the motion to accept and Linda Knight seconded the motion. The motion carried 4-0. Linda Knight presented the treasure report. Shannon Wagoner made the motion to approve and Sandy Bratton seconded the motion. It was approved 4-0.
Grant Update: Rex Knight gave an updated report on the $2,000 grant awarded by the Martin County Community Foundation to MCCPS. There is a one year time limit to spend the amount; grant is available from July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024. The check will be awarded on June 21st, the MCCF needs members to RSVP if they are attending the presentation. Suggestion was made to check for grant opportunities with Duke Energy, Dubois County REMC, and Hoosier Uplands.
Patient Update and Community Outreach: Total patients for May - 19; New Patients: 4; Gas cards given 9 = $621; Gift cards given 2 = $50
A donation canister and tablecloth were donated by Linda Knight, they will be used at the upcoming events. Thanks to Linda for her thoughtfulness! Tammy Salmon delivered May and June birthday gift bags. A special thank you to Tammy for her willingness to put together the birthday gift bags and deliver! Thank you to Robin Hart for ordering and delivering the MCCPS banner that will be used at the events!
Fundraising: Discussion was held regarding ordering more T-shirts to offer during the summer events. A suggestion was made to order lavender since this color represents all cancers and members were in agreement. Andrea Deckard will order 100 lavender and 100 gray shirts from ME Screenprint & Embroidery. The T-shirts will be available for $20 at the upcoming community events. Sandy Bratton suggested hosting a special "Tea Event" to raise funds. All members agreed to discuss further at the next meeting.
Volunteers: President Street provided a volunteer sign up sheet for the Loogootee Summerfest, June 22-24 and the Shoals Catfish Festival, July 1-4. Thank you to those donating their time at the booths! Volunteers will be needed for Hindostan Days on October 7th.
Sandy Bratton made a motion to adjourn and Rheadawn Street seconded it. Meeting was adjourned at 6:45 PM. There will not be a meeting in July due to the multiple upcoming events. The next meeting will be held at the St. Mary's Hall in Shoals, Indiana on August 1, 2023 at 5:30 PM.
