\Martin County Cancer Patient Services Meeting
January 2, 2024
The Martin County Cancer Patient Services met at the Loogootee Public Library in Loogootee, Indiana at 5:30 PM.  Rheadawn Street opened with a prayer and welcomed the guests.  In attendance were Rheadawn Street, Sandy Bratton, Linda Knight, Shannon Wagoner, Rex Knight, Kenley Shaw, Robin Hart, Tammy Salmon, Rene Phillips, Laken Inman, and Jim Force.

The minutes from the December meeting were reviewed by the board via email. Rheadawn Street made the motion to accept and Linda Knight seconded the motion. The motion carried 4-0. Linda Knight presented the treasure report. Sandy Bratton made the motion to approve and Rheadawn Street seconded the motion. It was approved 4-0.

Grant Update and Donations:  Rex Knight announced the Hugs4U, grant for medical and nutrition, is closed out, $2000 Martin County Community Foundation grant for the Youth Ambassador Program was presented with TV Channel 10 and 2 attending. Kenley was interviewed by both Channel representatives. Kenley will begin bundling items that were purchased with the grant. Mr. Knight recommended that Kenley have an adult present when she visits cancer patients and their families. Operation Round Up grant of $1000 was received and has no stipulations on usage. True RX granted $2,500 this past month. 

Patient Update and Community Outreach:

Total Patients - 33 

New Patients: 3 

Death: Terry (Ted) Shaw and Rod Jones passed away. Our condolences to the family0 Drivers Utilized this past month


Birthday Blessings: Tammy Salmon delivered 3 birthday blessing bags for December. Tammy stated the patients were so appreciative of the Christmas Trees that were refurbished by her and gifted to patients. Thank you to everyone who donated items and to Larry for his help as well. Discussion was held about the possibility of a grant for holidays and birthdays of cancer patients.

Volunteers: Thank you to Jim Force and the local bakers who donated items for the Christmas bags. Also, special thanks to Jim and those who helped assemble and deliver the bags to patients. The patients and families were so grateful. So many nice comments from them and their families. 


Fundraising:  Tammy Salmon and Rene Phillips are preparing a list of businesses for the online Auction. Shannon Wagoner will be hosting the auction from the MCCPS Facebook page. Volunteers to call businesses and pick up items will be needed. A list will be given out at the next meeting. Robin Hart will call the United Methodist Church representative to ask if April 27th is open for the Spring Tea. Ideas were discussed for entertainment at the Spring Tea: a singer and fashion show by local businesses.  A suggestion was made to sell $20 tickets giving a t-shirt along with it.  No decision was made.  Letter was presented by Rex Knight to be given to each vendor making donations. He also presented an informative sheet that gives an explanation for MCCPS and ways the community can be a part and give back. The board voted with Shannon Wagoner making a motion to accept the letter and information sheet. Rheadawn Street seconded the motion. They were approved 4-0.

No T-Shirts sold this past month. Lavender shirts: 28 available Gray shirts: 103 available

New Business:
Rheadawn Street passed out sympathy cards to be signed by the committee and board members. These cards will be sent to patient families.
Shannon Wagoner made a motion to adjourn and Linda Knight seconded it. Meeting was adjourned at 6:49 PM. The next meeting will be held at the St Mary’s Hall in Shoals, Indiana on February 6, 2024 at 5:30 PM.
